Lon Solomon
Senior Pastor
Lon Solomon was born and raised in a Jewish home in Portsmouth, VA. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a chemistry major. While in college, Lon's life became a relentless search for meaning and purpose. He sought to fill the void he felt on the inside with fraternity life, partying, gambling, and even developed a serious drinking problem. When all this failed to supply the inner peace he was seeking, Lon became deeply involved in drugs, both as a user and a distributor. He turned to ''spiritual'' things at this point, diving into psychedelics, Eastern religions and even attempting a return to mainstream Judaism. But all this failed to resolve his inner turmoil and he decided that suicide was the only reasonable way out. It was at this time that Lon met a street evangelist in Chapel Hill who began to talk to him about Jesus Christ. As a result of months of interaction with this man, Lon made the decision to accept Jesus as his personal Savior and Messiah in the spring of 1971.Lon is a marvelous example of God's transforming power in action. Subsequent to his decision to accept Christ, Lon was able to quit the drug and alcohol abuse that had plagued his life for years. He went on to graduate from Capital Bible Seminary in Old Testament with highest honors. He then did his graduate work at Johns Hopkins University in Near Eastern Studies. He taught Hebrew and Old Testament at Capital Bible Seminary from 1975-1980. In 1980 Lon became the senior pastor at McLean Bible Church, where he has served for over 30 years.
John Baber
John had the good fortune of being born into a Christian home and reared in the Southern Baptist church. He has early memories of his mother reading him Bible stories and kneeling with him beside his bed to “say my prayers.” These are cherished to this day, and they gave him great security for the rest of his life. His mother told him about the Lord Jesus and what He had done for us. John learned that if he wanted to live forever with Him in heaven, he needed ask Jesus into his heart, which he did. However, it was not until he was married with three young children that his spiritual journey came alive in Christ. After moving their church membership to Barcroft Bible Church in Arlington, Virginia in 1973, John and his wife, Sharon, were taught the real meat of the Word, and they grew quickly. Now, having attended McLean Bible Church since September 1997, and becoming a member shortly thereafter, he has been given the unexpected privilege of serving Him and His flock as an Elder at McLean Bible Church. This wonderful privilege is far beyond his greatest expectations. Within MBC, it is his desire to serve the members and attendees with all his abilities. Outside the church, his desire is to stand strong in his testimony for our Lord, Jesus Christ. And, to present MBC honorably in his every-day walk with Him.
